Do you think you have what it takes to be a contestant on 'Jeopardy!'? Well if you do, then you better hurry up, cause the long-running TV quiz show (created in 1964 by Merv Griffin, initially hosted by Art Fleming until 1979 and then by Alex Trebek since 1984) is holding online auditions this week for adults.

Fire up your browser and put on your thinking cap. The tests will be held for those living in Eastern time zones on Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET; for Central and Mountain time residents Wednesday at 8 CT/7 MT; and for Pacific Coast denizens Thursday at 8. Although the show urges people to take the test on the scheduled date for your time zone, you can take the test on another night if you want.

To get going, jump on over to 'Jeopardy!'s' online registration page. There you'll find all you'll need to know about registering and taking the tests, including test-taking hints and tips.

Here's how it all works: Adults must be 18 or older as of Jan. 26, 2010; you may take the online test even if you took last year's test, as long as you did not attend an "in person" interview. The online test consists of 50 clues, and you have 15 seconds to respond to each one. If you pass the test, you'll be invited to an "in person" interview; auditions will be held across the U.S. in the spring, summer and fall of 2010. Those selected to come to an in-person audition will be invited to their preferred audition city (chosen by user during registration) to participate in a full audition process, which consists of being tested with a new, different 50-clue test, playing a "mock version" of 'Jeopardy!' to assess game-playing skills, and a short personality interview.

If you pass all the requirements to become a contestant you will be entered into the contestant pool; adults remain in the pool for 18 months from the date of their in-person interview. But know this: Passing all these tests does not guarantee you an appearance on 'Jeopardy!' or make you automatically eligible to appear on the show.

And don't forget some of those eligibility requirements: "You are not eligible to be a contestant on 'Jeopardy!' if you have appeared on any version of the show with Alex Trebek; You are not eligible to be a contestant on 'Jeopardy!' if you have appeared on a game show/dating show/relationship show/reality show in the last year or three game shows/dating shows/relationship shows/reality shows in the last 10 years; You may not be eligible to play on Jeopardy! if you are employed by, related to, or within the last five years known anyone who works for Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc., Sony Pictures Television Inc., Quadra Productions, Inc., CBS Television Distribution, 'Wheel of Fortune' or 'Jeopardy!' prize suppliers, or any TV station (including advertisers and related radio stations) broadcasting 'Wheel of Fortune' or 'Jeopardy!'

Contestants for 'College Jeopardy!' have a little more breathing room: Online auditions take place in February, teens and kids can take the tests in March. And if you miss any of this, the show holds auditions via its "Brain Bus", which travels to 12 cities annually conducting contestant searches.
